DURANGO, Mexico, September 21, 2021 – Puerto
Rico and Dominican Republic lost their opening
matches at the FIVB Girls’ U18 World
Championship to Romania and Turkey,
respectively.
Romania beat Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-19, 25-19,
25-21) while Turkey dispatched Dominican
Republic also 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-18).
Denisa Chaluta (13) and Andra Badiu (10) topped
the scoring for Romania. Puerto Rico’s Chareika
Carrión finished with 9 points.
Buse Ozden led three Turkish players with double
figures in the scoring charts with 13 points,
followed by Pelin Eroktay and Melisa Bukmen with
11 and 10, respectively. Alanae Margaritha and
Crismeily Rodríguez each had 6 points for the
Dominican side.
The Turkish out-blocked the Dominicans 11-1 and
led in attacks 39-24.
