Puerto Rico announces team to Final Challenge Cup 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, June 15, 2018 – The list of the twelve players to represent Puerto Rico at the FIVB Women’s Challenge Cup was officially announced on Thursday.

The team that will be travelling to Lima, Peru on Sunday consists of middle blockers Alba Hernández, Jennifer Quesada and Ana Sofía Jusino; opposites Shirley Ferrer and Génesis Collazo; wing spikers Daly Santana, Pilar Marie Victoriá, Sofía Victoriá and Legna Hernández; the libero is Dalianliz Rosado.

The coach will be Abdell Otero assisted by Héctor José Reyes and the therapist Vimarys Cruz.

Otero will act as coach replacing Javier Gaspar who won’t be able to travel because or working commitments.

Puerto Rico, representing NORCECA, is the highest ranking team among the participants at the event. Peru will participate as host, Australia replacing Kazakstán who declined to participate and Colombia as South American representative. Bulgaria and Hungary are the teams qualified from Europe.

The competition format features two pools of three teams in the pool phase from June 20 to 22. The top two teams of each pool will meet in crossed semifinals on June 23 with the final and the match for third place scheduled next day.

Peru as host country will play in Pool A with Colombia and Hungary while Puerto Rico will be in Pool B with Australia and Bulgaria.

The matches will be contested at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima and the winner will qualify to the FIVB League of Nations 2019.
