Puerto Rico scores first win at World League Group 3

KOZANI, Greece, June 19, 2016 - Puerto Rico registered their first win of the season, seeing off Kazakhstan 3-0 (29-27, 25-19, 25-21) in Group 3 of the FIVB World League.

The Kazakhstan block was not quite as efficient as it had been the previous day against Chinese Taipei and Puerto Rico dominated the attacking.

Steven Morales scored an impressive 25 points for Puerto Rico, while Sequiel Sanchez added another 14 points in the victory. Vitaliy Vorivodin was Kazakhstan's best scorer with 13 points.

Javier Gaspar, coach of Puerto Rico: We are very excited about this win. We played very well. It’s a huge victory for us. We have a young team and I know that many people at home didn’t believe in us, but the players believed in themselves.

Sanchez Sequiel, captain of Puerto Rico: We are getting better every day. Today we managed to execute well at the end and we are happy with this victory.
