Puerto Rico team prepares for debut against Mexico

 

WINNIPEG, Canada, September 1, 2019 - The Puerto Rican men's team is already working in Winnipeg, Canada for its debut tomorrow, Monday, September 2 at the NORCECA Men's Championship that will award the last three tickets to the Continental Pre-Olympic tournament.

 

The squad of Puerto Rico traveled to the city in central Canada with 13 players. The group is made up of Maurice Torres, Dennis Del Valle, Pablo Guzmán, Arturo Iglesias, Sequiel Sánchez, Luis Guillermo García, Jonathan Rodríguez, Iván Fernández, Kevin López, Arnel Cabrera, Pedro Nieves, Pelegrin Vargas and Brian Negrón.

 

Puerto Rico will face Mexico on Sunday at 4:00 PM (Puerto Rico time), then on Tuesday 3 they clash with Suriname (2:00 p.m.) and close the group stage on Wednesday, September 4 against Canada at 9:00 p. m.

 

“We are going to work hard and look for the objective that is to obtain one of the three places to the Pre-Olympic. The group is motivated and we are going to play strong every game,” said national coach Ossie Antonetti.

 

Antonetti is assisted by Jamille Torres, Manuel ‘Wito’ Acevedo and Wilfredo Nazario.

 

The other four teams in the Championship are the United States, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

 

The best three sets at the end of the Championship will be qualified to the Norceca Pre-Olympic Championship to be held in January 2020. The United States is already classified to the Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020, while Cuba already has its place in the Pre-Olympic.
