Rain or Shine, ball is set to play in Manzanillo

 

MANZANILLO, Mexico, May 30 2014 - Despite a rainy morning due to a hurricane warning that finished as a light tropical storm, the ball was set to play at the San Pedrito Beach Stadium.

 

The closing of Day One was an amazing moment for Josh Binstock and Samuel Schachter of Canada 1, who finished undefeated with victories over Mexico 2 and USA 2.

 

Binstock and Schachter opened with a win over hosts Juan Revuelta and Ricardo Galindo of Mexico 2 (21-19, 21-12), and then winning against Americans Skyler McCoy and Marty Lorenz by 21-13 and 21-16.

 

Canada 2 also began strong as Simon Fecteau Boutin and James Battiston beat Costa Rica’s Josué Flores and Victor Alpizar (21-11, 21-8) as well as El Salvador’s Carlos Escobar and David Vargas (22-20, 21-14) for a 2-0 record.

 

Mexico 1 with Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros played against Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Erik Haddock. The victory was for Rodriguez and Haddock 2-0 (23-21, 21-18). In their next match against Aruba’s Mitchel Daniel and Eargenell de Cuba, Mexicans did not present to the court and lost 21-0 and 21-0.

 

Team 2 and 3 of host Country recovered from their previous loses of the day against Canada 1 and El Salvador, respectively.

 

Revuelta and Galindo of Mexico 2, won against Recinos and García (21-13, 21-12) of Guatemala to close the first phase with a 1-1 record. Meanwhile team number 3, composed by José Jurado and Miguel Cárdenas, that had previously lost against Carlos Escobar and David Vargas of El Salvador (21-19, 22-20) had a three set victory over Flores and Alpizar of Costa Rica to keep hopes alive at the tournament (21-15, 17-21, 15-13).

 

The first match of the day between USA 1 and Saint Kitts and Nevis, was won by Americans Derek Olson and Kevin McColloch over St. Clair Hodge and Kemory Percival, 2-0 (21-11, 21-9).
