Rivera and Arias lead Dominicans over Germany


MONTREUX, Switzerland, May 29, 2013 – Prisilla Rivera and Candida Arias combined to score 34 points as the Dominican Republic claimed its second victory in as many outings at the 2013 Montreux Volley Masters by defeating Germany 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-20, 25-16) on Wednesday.


Rivera led the Dominican offense with 18 points, including three blocks and one ace, while Arias totaled eight blocks among her 16 points. Jeoselyna Rodriguez contributed 13 points (three blocks and three aces) and Bethania De la Cruz finished with 10.


Jeniffer Geerties and Saskia Hippe recorded 13 and 11 points respectively for Germany while captain Anne Matthes added 9. Berit Kauffeldt had 5 blocks and finished with 8 points.


The Dominicans held a wide advantage in both the blocking (18-10) and serving aces (10-5) categories.


In the other matches scheduled on Wednesday, Brazil plays China while Japan meets Italy.


In late matches on Tuesday, Russia defeated China 25-22, 25-18, 26-18, 25-15 while Brazil beat Switzerland 25-21, 25-23, 25-10.


The Dominicans have a rest day on Thursday and come back to play Italy on Friday to finish the preliminary phase in Pool B.
