Rivera and Padilla advance in Porto with 4-1 record
 

PORTO, Portugal, August 1, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Daniel Rivera and Ricardo Padilla advanced to the first round of the FIVB U19 World Championship with a 4-1 win-loss record in Pool E.

 

Rivera and Padilla completed their run in pool play with a 21-18, 23-21 victory on Friday morning over Ukraine’s Kovalov/Plotnytskiy.

Americans Torey DeFalco and Louis Richards also advanced to the knock-out round with a 3-2 mark in Pool D following their 21-10, 21-10 loss to Venezuelans Tigrito and Peter on Friday.

 

Mexicans Josué Gaxiola and Jose Luis Rubio also reached the first round with a 3-2 record in Pool B despite their loss to Brazilians Arthur/George Wanderley 21-16, 21-10.

 

Canadians Zachery Albert and Craig Ireland and St Lucia’s Sachin Avril and Andre Marquis finished their participation with 0-5 mark.

 

Albert/Ireland lost in three sets to Drapchynski/Vauchkevich of Bielorrusia 18-21, 21-14, 15-12, while Sachin/Andre lost to Guehrer/Hunt of Australia 21-5, 21-2.
