Santa Marta 2022 Organizing Committee is formed

SANTA MARTA, Colombia - With the presence of Luis Mejia (DOM), Centro Caribe Sports President, the formation of the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Beach Games, Santa Marta 2022, took place in an act did this Friday in the city of the department of Magdalena.

 

The activity was held in one of the halls of the Kogui Hotel, with the assistance of Sara Rosario (PUR), President of the Future Venues Commission of the regional sports organization, and Julio Roberto Gómez (COL), of the organization's Technical Commission.

 

For the President, the celebration of these Games fills a niche that the region needed with a view to international events.

 

"Holding these Games allows our athletes to prepare for the world beach tournaments, such as those celebrated by ANOC," Mejia said.

 

While the Mayor of Santa Marta, Virna Johnson, showed pride when talking about the multi-sport fair, as it was the debut of this type of event for Centro Caribe Sports.

 

Carlos Caicedo, governor of the department of Magdalena, pointed out that Santa Marta will always be present in the history of the Games, because the Sports Flame will be lit in this city, as it will host the first version.

 

The Organizing Committee is made up of Colombian Olympic Committee President Ciro Solano Hurtado as President; Luis Mejia, honorary President, while Carlos Caicedo, Governor of Magdalena and Virna Johnson, Mayor of Santa Marta, serve as executives.

 

Also on the team are Edgar Martínez Varon, technical director of the Games; in addition, the members Sara Rosario, Julio Roberto Gómez, Lieutenant Commander Diego Salguero, who is the commander of the Colombian Maritime Authority (Dimar); Daniel Murcia, President of Promagdalena; and Manuel Moscote, director of Indeportes Magdalena.

During the activity the official song and character of the Games, "Oe-Oe", was presented, and topics such as sports technical aspects, volunteering, hotels, transportation, organization structure, communications, information system, proposals, among others.

 

The First Central American and Caribbean Beach Games, Santa Marta 2022, is scheduled from November 19 to 26, with a program of 12 sports disciplines, including: open water swimming and underwater, handball, soccer, wrestling, rugby, skateboard , surfing, tennis, frisbee, sailing and volleyball, where more than 800 athletes are expected.
