Trinidad and Tobago earn seventh position

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, September 16, 2011 – Trinidad and Tobago finished in seventh position at the 2011 NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship after a straight-sets victory over Costa Rica by score of 26-24, 25-21, 25-12 on Friday.

Krystle Esdelle and Kelly-Anne Billingy topped the scores of the winning side with 15 and 11 points respectively. Costa Rica’s Verania Willis collected 10 points while Angela Willis, Paola Ramirez and Catalina Fernandez each had 8 tallies.

The Trinidadians held a 10-3 margin in blockings and both teams scored with 4 service aces.

“We knew about the talent of Costa Rica and our goal was to remain focused,” Esdelle said. “We are very happy with this victory.”

“I am very satisfied with the development of our team and we have worked very hard to reach the level we are now,” Trinidad and Tobago’s coach Francisco Cruz said.

“We let the first set to escape after leading by wide margin,” Verania Willis said. “Then we made too many unforced errors.”

“The physical preparation of Trinidad and Tobago was the difference in the last two sets,” Costa Rica’s coach Braulio Godinez said.
