Argentina defeats the host nation in three sets

TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, México, September 21st 2010.—  Argentina won against Mexico 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-21) in the first match of the host team.

Mexico had an explosive start even with good blocking plays despite the argentines’ height and tried to achieve some of the south americans mistakes. But any way, the team coached by Horacio Bastit finished strong the first set.

The best performance by the local team came in the third one when Mexico even had an advantage of 11-5, with a spectacular game, but Argentina recovered and won the match.

Maria Julia Benet and  Florencia Busquets ended with 9 tallies each one, while Lucia Fresco, Aylin Pereyra and Tanya Acosta finished with seven also each to combine all their variations.

For Mexico Seomara Sainz one of the youngest girls in the aztec roster registered 10 points to even be the most productive player of the match. “We started very lazy, but in the third set We improved a lot unfortunately it was too late for us, but we tried to do our best”, said Yazmin Hernández, the Mexican captain.

“We played a very solid match, in the third set we felt in a low motivation hole, but finally we could solve it and go on”, stated argentinan captain Antonela Curatola.

For Mexico’s coach, Alfredo Bernal this was a very difficult start but explored some variations that could show a better performance at the end. “The main disadvantage was the height of the argentinan players, and also that they are a very Joint team, we only had a few players in our team who participated in the last Pan American Cup”.

For Horacio Bastit, this was a big chance to get on track again, after a long season and many activities. “We have faced a lot of work to do, because our internal league has its Schedule on and also our International matches, we had some rest, and returned to the court, I feel very satisfied for this victory”.
