Mexicans Candelas and Garcia get two victories in BC Volley

TIJUANA, Baja California, September 24, 2010 – The Mexican women’s duo of Bibi Candelas and Mayra Garcia won their two matches during opening day of Tijuana Beach Volleyball Torunament at Baja California High Development Center in Tijuana.

Candelas and Garcia opened with a 2-1 (20-22, 21-10, 15-7) hard fought victory over compatriots Martha Revuelta and Xitlali Herrera of Mexico-2, and then triumphed 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) against the USA Team of Aurora Skarra and Kelly Haan.

Top seeded Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo of Puerto Rico won their match against Sarahi Arroyo and Gloria Santoyo of Mexico-3 by score of 2-0 (21-11, 21-13).

In the men’s side, top-seeded Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen of Mexico-1 defeated Francois Allaire and Simon Fecteau-Botin of Canada-2 by score of 2-0 (21-17, 21-15).

Also the teams of Cuba and Puerto Rico scored victories in their only outings of the first day of action in the double-elimination tournament.

Cubans Kinderlan Alvarez and Sergio Gonzalez defeated Maverick Hatch and Jessi Lelliot of Canada-1 by score of 2-0 (21-19, 21-16), while Puerto Ricans Orlando Irizarry and Roberto Rodriguez beat 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) the duo of Diego Alpizar and Rooper Espinoza of Costa Rica.
