Six women teams unbeaten at end of day one

 

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, November 29, 2013 - Six women teams remained unbeaten with 2-0 marks to secure their quarterfinal places at the end of the first day of round-robin pool play in four groups when the 11th and final leg of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit began o Friday.

 

In Pool A, Heather Hughes and Lane Carico (USA-A) outplayed Apphia Glasgow and Kinisha Marshall (TTO-) 21-9, 21-2 and Brenda Allen and Shanicia Dyer (SKN) 21-4, 21-12 while Dania Hamilton and Samantha Mann (LCA) also won over Allen and Dyer 21-14, 21-11, and Glasgow and Marshall 11-21, 21-3, 15-12.

 

Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas (CAN-A) ended 2-0 in Pool B via wins against Sarah Day and Kaitlin Nielsen (USA-B) 21-17, 21-19 as well as Shedeiky Hamilton-Barnes and Kai Wright (JAM) 21-14, 21-19.

 

In Pool C, the experienced pair of Marta Revuelta and Bibiana Candelas (MEX) got the better of Heather Bansley and Caleigh Whitaker (CAN-B) 21-19, 24-22 and also the pair of Jamie Farley and Laurie Bachler (ISV) 21-15, 21-18 while in Pool D, Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro (CRC) and Dariam Acevedo and Vanessa Velez (PUR) also ended with 2-0 records with a match left against each other.

 

Cope and Alfaro scolded Nikita Campbell and Shanique Deshong (VIN) 21-9, 21-13 and Anicia Wood and Shari Matthews (BAR) 21-14, 21-9 while Acevedo and Velez survived a tense battle with Wood and Matthews 21-18, 19-21, 15-8, but had an easier time against Campbell and Deshong (VIN) 21-7, 21-6.
