Small comes up big for Barbados, set up final with T&T

TACARIGUA, TRINIDAD, DECEMBER 6, 2013: Deandra Small was the lone scorer in double-digits as Barbados brushed aside Bahamas in straight sets (26-24, 25-20, 25-15) in their Caribbean Zone Volleyball Association (CAZOVA)  Youth (Under-18) Girls Championship opener.

Small tallied 11 points, ten of which came via kills and one block while Ashley Jordan nine (seven kills, one block, one ace), and Cherise Austin, five in the 78 minutes contest.

While the scores seemed close on paper, it was not so on the court as the Barbadians, dominated all aspects of the match, 21-14 on spikes, 3-2 on blocks and 8-7 on aces while also committing less errors, 37 to the Bahamians, 43.

With the win, Barbados secured five points, the same as host T&T which also defeated Bahamas (3-0) on Thursday to set up the gold medal contest on Sunday from 5pm.

However, prior to their gold medal meeting, both Barbados and T&T will meet in the final round-robin girls match on Saturday.

For the Bahamas, Serena Brown led with seven point, Alexandria Pinder got six and Courtnee Stevens, four.
