Soto establishes new record of points in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, November 6, 2014 – Hector “Picky” Soto of Arecibo Captains is the new owner of the record of more points scored in the history of the Puerto Rican Men’s Volleyball Superior League.

With 5,152 points, Soto broke the old record of 5,151 set by Luis “Feñito” Rodriguez, who retired last year after 24 seasons of service.

The 36 year-old Soto said his new goal is to reach the 6,000-point plateau while receiving a plaque presented by Elliott Matias, vice president of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation and Luis Monrouzeau and Angel Edgardo Aponte, owner and manager of the Arecibo franchise, respectively.

The match was stopped while Soto received the congratulations from his teammates and opponent players and the fans gave him a standing ovation.

Commenting about the feat, Soto said it is “the result of consistency and sacrifices with all those days of practice.”

He mentioned some others big scorers in the history of the league such as Rodriguez, Ramon “Monchito” Hernandez and Roberto Guilloty.

“All my achievements are dedicated to my wife, my children and all my family, and that’s what matters the most at the end of the day,” he said.
