Sport Sfaxien overcome La Romana

 

BETIM, Brazil, October 17, 2013 – Tunisia’s Sportif Sfaxien erased a two-set deficit to defeat Deportivo La Romana of Dominican Republic 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-11 in a match of Pool B of the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship on Thursday.

 

The victory allowed Sportif Sfaxien to even their win-loss record at 1-1 while the Dominican left the competition winless in their three outings.

 

Mohamed Ben Abdallah and Ismael Moalla registered 23 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the winning club. Hakim Zouari contributed 16 points, including a tournament-high 8 blocks, and Nouredinne Hfaiedh added 13 tallies.

 

Henry Tapia was the best for the losing club with 23 points. German Recio and Elvis Contreras concluded with 18 and 12 points.

 

In the other matches of Thursday, UPCN of Argentina edged Trentino Diatec of Italy 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 15-13) to secure a spot in the semifinals while Lokomotiv Novosibirsk of Russia outdueled Sada Cruzeiro of Brazil also 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 16-14).
