St Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica play for gold

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, August 10, 2017 - St Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica will contest the final of men’s Group E of the NORCECA Zone of the (FIVB) World Championships qualification round for teams in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA), here at the Beausejour Indoor facility.

And, despite Antigua and Barbuda beat St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-2( 19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-12) , it was not enough for them to edge out Dominica, as all three teams finished on two wins and one loss each.

St Vincent and the Grenadines outweighed the others, accumulating 10 points, having won the most sets, eight.

Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda were the same on points, seven, and same on sets won and loss, as each won seven and lost six.

It then came down to the points ratio registered. Dominica finished on 0.966, and Antigua and Barbuda, 0.960.

In the final match of the preliminary round, Antigua and Barbuda came from two sets down to blemish St Vincent and the Grenadines’ previous undefeated record.

Scoring the most points for Antigua and Barbuda were Collin Thomas (Outside Hitter) and Xavier Roberts (Opposite Hitter), who both tallied 15.

But having a game high 24 points, was Opposite Hitter – Ronaldo Franklyn, while Outside Hitter- Asmond Franklyn registered 18.

Full of expectancy going into the final, coach of the St Vincent and the Grenadines outfit – Brian Burke reiterated, “We came here with one mission to make it to the next round and we are one step away from doing that”.

Burke feels that despite the hiccup against Antigua and Barbuda, his players are ready to refocus in the champion match.

Antigua and Barbuda and St Kitts and Nevis, play in the match seven, for the third and fourth places.
