St. Lucia dismantles Antigua and Barbuda in a lopsided affair

ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius, July 7, 2008 - The much anticipated clash between regional volleyball juggernauts ST. Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda, fizzled into a lop sided affair, as the former decimated the latter with a score of 3:0 (25-8, 25- 16, 26-24).  The enormous weight of the “Lucia pressure wobbled the legs of their opponent as they attacked and defended with efficiency.

Leading the charge was Captain Chenoa Evans   who scored thirteen (13) points; she was ably assisted by effervescent Tenayestlgni Joseph who scored twelve (12) points.

Antigua and Barbuda seemed befuddled and was unable to answer the many questions posed by the “Lucian” attack. The team finally provided stout resistance in the third set but it was futile.   The Wadadli spirit seemed crushed and nonresponsive, as team members lost the ebullience they displayed in the earlier game. Team captain Joseanne Lewis fought valiantly to keep her team relevant but it was to no avail.   The leading scorer for Antigua and Barbuda was Captain Lewis who made nine (9) points.  Middle blocker Rayana Regis provided some much needed assistance with five (5) points.

Mr. Joseph Clercent, St. Lucia’s coach was pleased with his team’s effort but feels they can get better once they continue training.  Captain Chenoa Evans felt the team had a good chemistry and they can only continue to improve.  Coach Roselyn Lewis of Antigua and Barbuda found it difficult to motivate her team during the first and second set.  They seemed unfocused and tired but this was a valuable for future events. Her team captain had a similar sentiment but expressed once the team is rested they will bounce back.
