St. Martin easily defeats debutants Saba

MARIGOT, St Martin, October 28, 2016 - Host St. Martin made their intentions clear, by quickly defeated Saba with a score of 25-10; 25 -6; 25-14.  The “Phoenix” scorched the court with pin point serves and experience. Captain Valerie Damaseau, Audrey Gil and Georgina Zenon led the way with points scored.  This offense was complemented with a stingy defense, though it lapsed at times.  With a victory in hand, the “Phoenix” will be confident in facing their next opponent.

Saba worked really hard to keep the scores close but that attempt was quickly thwarted by their opponents.  However there were sparks of brilliance that shows Saba will be a force to reckon with in the future. This was evidenced by their improvement in set three.  Unfortunately, in today’s game their inexperience and composure betrayed them.  The leading scorers for team Saba was Angelica Movida.

Captain Valerie Damaseau and Coach Franck Legras complimented Saba for their participation in this tournament. Both were of the view St. Martin did not know what to expect from their opponents and at times found it difficult to respond to them.  However the team used the serve and maintain any momentum they garnered to propel them to victory.

Saba’s Captain, Jarmila Berkel and Coach Dereck Spence felt the experienced gained from this tournament will be invaluable.  It is evident the team needs more regional games and build experience as a unit. However both were confident this is a step in the right direction and improvements will result.
