Successful Mini-Volley Tournaments in Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 30, 2013 – The Dominican National Volleyball Federation organized two successful national tournaments of Mini-Volleyball with the participation of boys and girls from the 32 provinces of the country.

The event for children under 12 years old was dedicated in memoriam of the late Miguel Cruz, former coach of the women’s national team and technical director of the National Federation.

The award ceremony was attended by FIVB Honorary President Jizhong Wei, FIVB First Executive Vice President and NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz and Asian Volleyball Confederation President Dr. Saleh Bin Nasser.

The tournaments were celebrated in two consecutive weekends at the Volleyball Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo. Each team consisted of 12 players and a total of 768 competitors.

The first two sets of the matches were played up to 21 points and the rest to a maximum 15 points or a two-point difference.

“It was a very successful activity and the kids really enjoyed visiting the volleyball facilities and the opportunity to establish new friendships, which is one of the goals of this program,” Dominican Republic’s National Federation Ramon Garcia said.
