Three pairs from USA and Canada in Round 2 at Puerto Vallarta

 

   

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico, October 10, 2015 –United States’ Summer Ross/Lane Carico and Heather McGwire/Amanda Dowdy and Canada’s Melisa Humana-Paredes/Taylor Pischke are still in contention in the women’s segment of the FIVB Puerto Vallarta Open, the season opening event on the 2016 Beach Volleyball Tour.

 

The three teams have advanced to the second round of the main draw after finishing in second place in their respective pools with 2-1 win-loss record.

 

Summer/Carico had to battle for 57 minutes before downing Germany’s Benneck/Grobner 2-1 (21-19, 19-21, 15-12).

 

Humana-Paredes/Pischke overcame Finland’s Lehtonen/Lahti in three grueling sets 2-1 (19-21, 21-13, 15-13) that lasted 49 minutes.

McGwire/Dowdy eliminated Mexico’s Claudia Ríos/Gloria Santoyo 2-1 (21-16, 21-16).

 

United States’ Jennifer Fopma/Brittany Hochevar (14) lost to Switzerland’s Betschart/Eiholzer 2-1 (15-21, 21-17, 16-14) in 50 minutes.

 

In Round 2, the 13rd seeded Humana-Paredes/Pischke (13) will play sixth-seeded Matauatu/Pata of Vanuatu, Summer/Carico (16) will take on Menegatti/Orsi Toth (4) of Italy and McGwire/Dowdy (27) will meet Argentina’s Gallay/Klug (5).
