Trinidad & Tobago score first win in Pool B

LIMA, Peru, June 20, 2017 – Trinidad & Tobago defeated Chile 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-15) to claim their first victory in Pool B of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Movistar at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum on Tuesday. It was the first win for Trinidad & Tobago while Chile remained winless in four outings.

Channon Thompson was the big weapon for the Trinidadian side with 25 points, including three aces. Sinead Jack and Darlene Ramdin charted 12 and 10 points, respectively. Chile’s Beatriz Novoa had 13 points in the loss.

The winners scored 15 blocks, including four each by Captain Renelle Forde and Jack, to 8 by Chile. Trinidad & Tobago made 23 unforced errors to 12 by Chile.

Francisco Cruz, Coach of Trinidad & Tobago: “Chile battled for the first and second sets and then we dominated in the third set with our physical advantage at the net. Chile plays an organized defense which creates difficulties to my team in the long rallies. We are improving and I hope we can be better next year.”

Eduardo Guillaume, Coach of Chile: “As I have said before this tournament gives us the chance to evaluate and to assemble the team of the future. Physically we are very far from the rest of the teams. We need to put all our efforts in creating a group and give it continuity.”
