Trinidad & Tobago stages Grassroots course

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, May 28, 2014 – The recently concluded Grassroots Beach Volleyball Course conducted by the FIVB in collaboration with the Trinidad & Tobago Volleyball Federation (TTVF) resulted in 13 participants receiving certificates.

Held at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena (classroom sessions) and Saith Park (practical sessions) from May 12 to 15, topics included attacking skills, defensive skills and rules, as well as learning to officiate.

The FIVB Instructor for Beach Courses, Mrs. Claudia Laciga, previously represented Brazil. She encouraged the participants to “keep at the sport, practice and develop the skills that were learnt throughout the course and to get rid of the lazy, laid-back attitude.”

She also indicated her interest in seeing the participants representing Trinidad & Tobago in the various world competitions.

The course concluded on May 16 with a final-day tournament organized by the participants at Maracas Bay.

At the end of the tournament, Trinidad & Tobago Youth Olympian team Chelsi Ward and Malika Davidson were the female champions while the men’s section was won by Waldo Phillips (youth U21 beach athlete) and none other than Claudia Laciga.
