USA cruise past Germany in VNL

BANGKOK, Thailand, May 29, 2018 - Michelle Bartsch-Hackley and Jordan Larson showed off their dazzling array of shots to guide the United States to a clinical 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-17) win over Germany in the inaugural women's FIVB Volleyball Nations League on Tuesday.

Mixing power with clever touches, the two American big hitters dominated in attack, paving the way for the reigning world champions to rack up a fifth successive straight sets win, each as impressive as the other.

Kelly Murphy also played superbly, while Rachael Adams and Carli Lloyd were prominent throughout as the US maintained their place at the top of the competition standings with their sixth win from seven games.

Germany were well served by the consistent Louisa Lippmann and Marie Scholzel but were unable to unbuckle the Americans, who continue to set the standard for the exciting new competition.

It was Germany's sixth straight loss in the tournament after they opened with a win over Brazil, although they were brave in defeat, testing the Americans throughout a top quality contest.

Unfazed, the Americans continue to go from strength to strength. They swept each of their three matches in Japan last week and made the perfect start to Pool 11 in Bangkok.

The US faces the Dominican Republic in its next match on Wednesday while Germany tackles the pool hosts Thailand.
