USA defeats Dominican Republic 3-0

LANGLEY, Canada, September 24 2013.- The United States clinched its second victory after a solid performance against Dominican Republic, particularly in the third set. The score was 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-9).

The team coached by John Speraw had William Priddy as the best scorer with 15 points. Matthew Anderson and Maxwell Holt finished with 10 points apiece. For the Dominican team Henry Tapia closed with 10 and captain Wilfrido Hernandez with 8.

“After the match, I told the team that I was happy that even when we were ahead 2-0, we continued to play very hard and we continued to improve throughout the match,” said coach Speraw.

“I thought the Dominican defended quite well early on in the match. They dug very, very well and made us play long rallies and they won a number of them. That put some pressure on us.”

For Osiel Vazquez, coach of Dominican Republic “the match was very emotional, the first was a very good quality set and after that the American players increased their level. We failed in the reception but generally I think the group worked very well.”

For Dominican Captain Wilfrido Hernández, USA kept focused on their serve and block. “They really dominated us with that. We tried to attack against their number one (Matt Anderson), but We couldn´t,” He remarked.

“Tonight I think it was very well for us. I think the goal for the tournament is to get better every game and We defnitively played better than We did yesterday,” said Sean Rooney captain of USA.
