USA lose to China at U20 Champs

CORDOBA AND BOCA DEL RIO, Mexico, July 18, 2017 – United States lost to China in a roller-coaster five-setter 3-2 (23-25, 30-28, 25-16, 10-25, 15-13) in a qualification match for the 1 to 8 positions of the U20 Women’s FIVB World Championship.

Xiaoqing Cai and Hanyu Yang blasted 21 and 20 points, respectively, for China. Holly Carlton topped USA scorers with 21 points of her own.

In a qualification match for the 9 to 16 positions in Boca del Rio, Dominican Republic swept Cuba 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16).

Vielka Peralta and Yanlis Feliz had 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the winners while Madeline Guillen contributed 10 points. Dalila Palma had 12 for the Cubans who played without the services of their leading scorer Heidy Casanova.

Also in Boca del Rio, Argentina beat hosts Mexico 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-15) behind a 21-point performance by Anahi Tosi.
