USA see off Germany at Montreux Volley Masters

 

MONTREUX, Switzerland, May 27, 2014 – Rachel Adams fueled United States to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21) over Germany in Pool B of the 29th Montreux Volley Masters, the traditional annual women’s volleyball competition, on Tuesday.

 

Adams registered 20 points, including six blocks and two aces, in leading four Americans with double figures in the scores. Kimberly Hill and Kelsey Robinson contributed 16 and 15 points in the victory while Ebony Nwanebu added 10.

 

Germany’s Margaret Kozuch finished with 18 points while Stefanie Karg and Christiane Furst each had three blocks and concluded with 14 and 12 points, respectively, in the loss.

 

The winners held the advantage in blocks (12-7) and serving aces (8-4).

 

Earlier on Tuesday, Brazil roared past Switzerland to win 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13) in Pool A.

 

Ana Carolina da Silva led her team with 13 points to the victory while Mandy Wigger had 8 points for the defeated side.

 

In the last match of Tuesday also in Pool A, China edged Russia in five sets (25-22, 23-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-9.

 

Zhu Thing and Zeng Chunlei were the best scorers for China with 19 and 15 points, respectively, while Russian Natalia Malykh had a match-high 25 for Russia.
