United States to defend NORCECA U20 title at home

 

FT. LAUDERDALE, United States, July 25, 2016. -  United States will defend the NORCECA Women’s U-20 title while hosting the continental event that grants a ticket to the 2017 FIVB age group World Championship at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from July 26-31.

 

United States has won the event on six occasions and leads group B accompanied by Mexico, Puerto Rico and French St. Martin. The current FIVB U-20 World Champions Dominican Republic are in group A joined by Cuba, Costa Rica and Haiti.

 

Group winners of the preliminary round will advance directly to the semifinal while the second and third placed teams will meet in the quarterfinal round.

 

United States earned their sixth NORCECA title unbeaten and without losing a set in the past edition of the tournament held in Guatemala City. The Americans beat Cuba 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-16) in the gold medal match. Dominican Republic won the bronze medal while dominating Mexico in straight sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.

 

Members of the committee conducted several joint meetings with the organizing committee including inspections of all the facilities at the Nova Southeastern University two days prior of the competition.

 

Teams arrived in Fort Lauderdale on July 24 and the preliminary inquiries along with the general technical meeting will take place on July 25. The competition will begin on July 26 with four daily matches.
