Volleyball Canada’s Beach Program Announcement

TORONTO, Canada, February 17, 2021 - Volleyball Canada’s national beach volleyball program is pleased to announce its most recent NextGen staff, based at the National Training Centre in Toronto at Downsview Park.

Josh Nichol, who has an impressive coaching background and worked with the program as a performance analyst, is now the Men’s Next Gen Beach Volleyball coach.

“I’m excited for the opportunity and looking forward to the journey, the challenge, and the fun,” said Nichol. “I’m thrilled to have a larger role in coaching, player development, talent identification, analytics, and planning. Canada has a great program, unbelievable athletes and a first-class IST (integrated support team) that I’m proud to be a part of.”

Toronto’s Felipe Humana-Paredes, former national team beach volleyball athlete and York University player and assistant coach, will be working with both genders as Performance Analyst and NextGen Assistant Coach.

"Together, as coaches, staff, and athletes, I know we can continue to build a culture of excellence and results," said Humana-Paredes, who comes from the beach volleyball family that includes former Olympic coach father Hernan Humana and sister Melissa, who is 2019 World Champion with partner Sarah Pavan.

Both Nichol and Humana-Paredes will be working with the up-and-coming athletes of the NextGen program, as well as Humana-Paredes providing performance analysis assistance to the senior teams.

"I see a ton of potential in our athletes today, and I'm most looking forward to giving them the tools and support they need to elevate their game on the international stage. It is an absolute privilege to be able to work with and represent Team Canada - I can't wait to see what the future holds," said Humana-Paredes.

All technical staff positions will be evaluated after the re-scheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle. Due to the pandemic, most events on the FIVB and NORCECA calendar have been cancelled or postponed.  More information on events moving forward will be released when available.
