Well disputed men's tournament in Toluca

 

TOLUCA, México, June 7, 2013 - The first day of NORCECA Men's Beach Volleyball Tournament in Toluca saw four pairs advancing into the quarterfinals by winning their two games.

 

Canada, United States, Puerto Rico and Cuba stood out in their groups. In the strong pool C, United States 1 of John Mayer and Bradley Keenan recovered after losing the first set 20-22, to win 21-19, 15-12 over Simon Fecteau-Boutin/Ryan DeBruyn of Canada 2 and then won 21-12, 21-14 against Costa Rica’s Esteban Escobar/Jonathan Guevara. Cuba, with Karell Pina and Sergio Gonzalez won 21-14, 21-12 over Escobar/Guevara, and finished the day winning 21-16, 21-13 over Fecteau-Boutin/DeBruyn.

 

In pool D, Grant O’Gorman-Samuel Pedlow of Canada 1, won 25-23, 21-18 against Stafford Slick-Casey Jennings of USA 2, and then won 21-14, 21-10 over Aruba’s Mitchel Daniel/Earganell DeCuba.

 

Roberto Rodriguez/Hector Soto of Puerto Rico achieved two wins. First a 21-16, 21-14 victory over Mexico 2 of Ulises Ontiveros/Aldo Miramontes in Pool B and concluded with a 21-10, 24-22 victory off Bahamas’ Ferguson/Printacnique Wilson.

 

In Pool A, which has three teams, Nicaragua with Gerson Contreras/Danny Lopez managed a 21-12, 21-16 win against Barbados’ Hugh Sealy/Darran Gill but then lost 21-10, 21-8 to Lombardo Ontiveros/Juan Virgen of Mexico 1.
