HAVANA, Cuba, May 24, 2013 – Cuba will send a twelve-man
volleyball squad to Argentina in preparation for the XXIV FIVB
World League, the premier men’s annual event from May 31 to July
21. The Cubans travel on Saturday for a four-match friendly series,
three of them against the Argentina National Team. The fourth
will be against the second team of the South American country. Argentina, which finished in 10th place in last year’s World
League, will play hosts of the Finals this year scheduled in Mar
del Plata for a second time.
The Cuban side, coached by Orlando Samuels, is comprised of
wing-spikers Rolando Cepeda, Lazaro Fundora and Abraham Alonso
and opposite Yordan Bisset.More

Thailand edges Puerto Rico in five sets
SHENZHEN, China, May 24, 2013 – Thailand overcame Puerto Rico to
win five sets (21-25, 25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 15-5) to conclude the
second phase of the China International Women’s Volleyball
Tournament on Friday with a 2-1 win-loss record. Puerto Rico,
forced to play five sets in each of the three matches of the
four-team series, finished at 1-2. Onuma Sittirak was the
leading scorer of the winning side with 29 points, followed by
Wilavan Apinyopang with 18 and Pleumjit.

to inform the passing of Eliseo Acosta Sosa, who presided over
the Cuban National Volleyball Federation during the period
1968-80. He was the founder of the Cuban School of Volleyball and one of
the founders of NORCECA Confederation and contributed to the
