Carrera was the best libero for second consecutive year

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, March 4, 2006.-For second consecutive year Evelyn Carrera of Ponce Lioneses, took home the title as the Libero of the Year of the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior League after dominating the stats of the position during the 2006 season.

 

Carrera finished first in the libero sheet with 398 defenses and 312 receptions for a total of 710 and average of 8.77.

 

The libero of the Lioneses was also first in defenses winning the prize with 399 in 84 sets played for an average of 4.75 while finishing third in receptions with 312 for and average of 4.27.

 

In receptions, Alida Otero, libero of Aguadilla Divas, obtained the trophy for the Best Receiver after closing the regular series with 333 in 78 sets for an average of 4.27.

 

Venezuelan imported Graciela Marquez of Toa Baja won the prizes as Top Scorer and Best Attacker this year.

 

Marquez made 515 points, 464 in attacks, 25 in blocks and 26 in serves averaging 6.13 in 84 sets played.

 

The feat of Marquez of winning the departments of scoring and attacks also was attained in the past two seasons by April Ross of Ponce Lioneses in 2005 while Kristee Porter of Carolina Giants made it in 2004.

 

In blocking, the Dominican Annerys Vargas of Bayamon Cowgirls, won the award as Best Blocker with 97 in 80 sets for an average of 1.21 by set.

 

Argentinian Viviana Dominkó of Juncos, was the Best Setter in her first season in the league with 354 in 90 sets for average of 3.93.

 

Puerto Rican Karina Ocasio was credited as the Best Server with a total of 37 aces in 90 sets played. The younger of the Ocasio sisters is back in the league after one year of absence.
