Ross and Carrera are the best in Puerto Rican League

Puerto Rico, February 3, 2005,-Ponce’es teammates April Ross of United States and Evelyn Carrera of Dominican Republic are currently the best offensive and defensive players respectively in the Women’s Puerto Rican League.

Ross of Ponce is leading the circuit in points with 187 and in attacks with 163 while libero Carrera is the best in total defenses with 196 and tops all players of her position with a 10.90 average.

The Puerto Rican Women’s League announced the leaders on a press release dispatched today by its Communications Department.

In the scoring class, Ross is followed by Canadian Stacey Gordon of Caguas with 165 points and Dominican Annerys Vargas of Bayamon with 164. Siblings Eva and Aury Cruz complete the top five with 154 and 153 for Juncos and Toa Baja.

Gordon is escorting Ross in attacks with 148 and American Nancy Metcalf of Mayaguez has 135. Vargas follows with 133 and Aury Cruz has 131.

Puerto Rican Jetzabel del Valle of Caguas is the best blocker with 28 followed by Vargas (26), Yasary Castroad (23), Emily Adams (22) and Sharisa Livingstone (19).

Carrera is by far the best in defenses with 53 more than the runner-up Lyan Puig (143). Then follow Gordon (141), Aury Cruz (122) and Graciela Marquez (119).

Glorimar Ortega of Carolina leads the setters with 313 followed by veteran Xiomara Molero of Caguas with 303.

Caguas has a perfect record of 8-0 followed by Carolina and Mayaguez both with 6-1 and Ponce is 4-4. The rest of the standing is Corozal (3-4), San Juan (3-5), Toa Baja (2-5), Bayamon (2-6), Isabela (2-6) and Juncos (2-6).
