House of Volleyball in Puerto Rico: A dream coming true

TOA BAJA, Puerto Rico, February 18, 2006.- The Mayor of Toa Baja, Anibal Vega Borges, and the president of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation, Carlos J. Beltran, signed an agreement on Thursday to start the construction of the always dreamed “House of Volleyball.”

 

Vega Borges donated the FPV the land in the sixth section of the Levittown Urbanization in Toa Baja, to construct the building. Besides, the Municipality of the town will make a donation of US$1.5 million to start the works.

 

“We are going to make a financial contribution of $1.5 million to start the construction of the building where the Volleyball National Teams can train,” said Vega Borges during the press conference for the All-Star Game of the Women Superior Volleyball League.

 

“The Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation will arrange along with the Municipality of Toa Baja in order to get the other funds and complete the structure. Then, the Toa Baja City Hall will pass the usufruct of the facilities to the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation,” explained Vega Borges.

 

Vega Borges explained that the land given to the FPV is of almost 15,000 square meters. “I feel very happy that in Toa Baja the dream of Carlos Beltran is coming true and besides we are giving a tool to our national players to keep performing with excellence,” said the Mayor of Toa Baja. “We hope the construction to start this year and finish the next year,” he added.

 

The House of Volleyball will have indoor courts and sand courts for the different National Teams in all categories of women and men.

 

“The dream is nearing up with volleyball having its own facility for the development of its national programs for women and men, to keep achieving international triumphs for Puerto Rico in all its divisions,” said Beltran.

 

 “We are very grateful of the honourable Mayor of Toa Baja, Anibal Vega Borges, and of the Secretary for Recreation and Sports, doctor David Bernier, for their support on this initiative that with no doubt will be beneficial for our country,” said the federative leader.
