Rodriguez and Haddock repeat as champions in Cayman Islands

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 24, 2013 – Puerto Ricans Roberto “Rafu” Rodriguez and Eric Haddock repeated as men’s champions of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament by defeating USA’s Todd Rogers and Ryan Doherty 21-16, 21-18 in the match for the gold medal on Sunday afternoon. The crafty team of Rodriguez and Haddock used all their repertoire of shots to keep off balance the powerful tandem of Rogers and Doherty. “I am really elated about winning against one of the greats of all-time like Todd (Rogers)”, said Rodriguez, who won with Haddock here last year and took a silver medal in 2011 with a different partner. Canadians Broder and Valjas triumph in Cayman Islands

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 24, 2013 – Canadians Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas crushed Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik of USA-A in consecutive sets (21-15, 21-13) to claim the women’s gold medal of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the opening event of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit. The bronze medal went to USA-B team of Jennifer Fopma and Brooke Sweat who defeated Mexicans Bibi Candelas and Martha Rveuelta 21-13, 21-15.  “We had to be patient playing outdoors for the first time of the year under windy conditions and the heat,”  More  Español

Mexicans Candelas and Revuelta in semifinals

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 23, 2013 – Mexican Bibi Candelas and Martha Revuelta defeated Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney of Canada-B by scores of 22-20, 21-13 to claim a spot in the semifinals of the women’s field at the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first leg of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit. Candelas won here last year with her partner Mayra García, who retired at the end of 2012 following a long career. The two teams representing USA and the one of Canada-A reached the round of the final four round to be played on Sunday morning at Seven-Mile Beach. More  Español

Rodríguez and Haddock to semifinals

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 23, 2013 – Defending champions Roberto Rodriguez and Eric Haddock of Puerto Rico are among the four semifinalists of the 2013 Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first stop of the NORCECA Circuit. Winners of Pool C, Rodríguez/Haddock advanced with an easy 21-16, 21-14 victory over the promising pair of Joseph Clercent and Julian Bissette of St Lucia. They will be joined by Chaim Schalk and Benjamin Saxton of Canada-A,  Christian Redman and Maciej Zbyszewski of Canada-B and Americans Todd Rogers and Ryan Doherty. Rogers and Doherty impress with strong show

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 22, 2013 - Former Olympic and world champion Todd Rogers and new partner Ryan Doherty made an impressive debut in 2013 by winning their two matches in opening day of the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first stage of the NORCECA Circuit. Playing in Pool A, the tandem of USA-A first defeated Richard Campbell and Philippe Deslandes of Cayman Islands-B 21-9, 21-12 and capped their day with a 21-13, 21-14 victory over Aseah Thomas and Anthony Pippen of U.S. Virgin Islands. Women’s teams of USA and Canada off to good start

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 22, 2013 – The two women’s teams representing each United States and Canada won twice on Friday during the opening action at the Cayman Islands Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit. Americans Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik in Pool A and Jennifer Fopma and Brooke Sweat on Pool C won their contest with comfortable margin in day one at Seven Mile Beach. Kropp/Pavlik won 21-14, 21-9 over Jessica Wolfenden and Stefania Gandolfi of Cayman Islands-B and won by default 21-0, 21-0 against Nikita Campbell and Shanique Deshong of St Vincent and Grenadines. NORCECA Beach Circuit set to begin at Cayman Islands

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 22, 2013 – The 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit starts off on Friday at Seven Miles Beach with the fifth edition of the Cayman Islands Tournament which traditionally open the season. Sixteen teams per gender, representing fifteen countries, will take part in the competition during the weekend. Teams are divided in four pools for the preliminary round-robin of Friday and early Saturday. The top two teams from each pool will move to the single elimination main draw while the two teams of the bottom will play in the consolation bracket for the positions 9-16..  More  Español

Rodriguez-Haddock to defend the crown in Cayman Islands

Big & Tall join forces in Cayman Islands

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, March 18, 2013 – The biggest name ever to register for a NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament  will be joined by arguably the tallest player to compete on the sand as the legendary Todd Rogers teams up with seven-footer Ryan Doherty for their first event together at Cayman Islands Tournament next weekend.The USA pair will be the main attraction at the beautiful Seven Miles Beach in Grand Cayman once the event gets underway for the first stage of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit.
