Ontiveros and Virgen new Guatemala Champions

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 21, 2013. -  Mexico’s Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen are the new champions of the men’s competition at the Gatorade Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third leg of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit. Ontiveros/Virgen defeated Cubans Karell Piña and Sergio Gonzalez in a thrilling gold medal match, coming from behind 16-21, 21-16, 16-14. They also needed three sets to beat Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock in their semifinal match 21-11, 12-21, 16-14. It was the second consecutive victory for Ontiveros/Virgen, who won also in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, and the third win for Virgen in Guatemala who won here with Aldo Miramontes in 2008 and 2011.   More  Español

First Gold ever for Canadians Mactavish and Whitaker

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 21, 2013. - Canadians Kacie Mactavish and Caleigh Whitaker claimed their first gold ever in the NORCECA Tour winning the Gatorade Guatemala BVB Tournament on Sunday. Mactavish/Whitaker defeated Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik of USA-A 21-17, 21-16 in the gold match. In semifinals they saw off the home girls Maria Jose Orellana and Lourdes Ramirez 21-14 in both sets.  It was a memorable win for both of them because not only was their first as partners but also the first individually. “We are extremely excited, the event was awesome and we had a great time,”  More  Español

USA teams meet in women’s semis at Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 20, 2013 - The two women teams of USA will meet in the semifinals of the Gatorade Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third leg of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Circuit. Defending champions Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik of United States-A and Brittany Hochevar and Emily Day of United States-B will battle against each other in the semifinal at Campo Marte on Sunday. The other semifinal features the competition between the home girls Maria Jose Orellana and Lourdes Ramirez of Guatemala-A against Kacie MacTavish and Caleigh Whitaker of Canada-A. In the quarterfinals round Kropp/Pavlik defeated Dominicans Diana Peguero and Nairobi Agramonte 21-9, 21-19.  More  Español

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 20, 2013 - Puerto Rico, United States, Cuba, and Mexico reached the men semifinals of the Gatorade Guatemala BVB Tournament in Campo Marte, the third stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit. USA women enjoy fast start in Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 19, 2013 – The USA teams of Jenny Kropp/Whitney Pavlik and Brittany Hochevar/Emily Day both won in their opening outings in day one of the Gatorade-Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament, third leg of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit at Campo Marte. The defending champions Kropp/Pavlik of United States-A defeated the promising team of Canada-B, Victoria Altomare/Sophie Bukovec by 21-17, 21-16 in Pool A. In Pool D, USA-B Hochevar/Day had no difficulties to beat Phillip/Glasgow of Trinidad-A 21-8, 21-4 and Honduras Gina Flores/Euceda 21-5, 21-4. Gatorade Guatemala BVB begins on Friday

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 18, 2013. - The Gatorade Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit, kicks off on Friday at Campo Marte. A historic registration of sixteen countries distributed in 18 women teams and 20 men teams will take part of the competition in Guatemala. Teams are divided in six pools in the women’s division and in five pools in the men’s division for the preliminary round of Friday and early Saturday. The single elimination bracket is scheduled to start on Saturday afternoon. The semifinals and finals are set on Sunday followed by the award ceremony. Matches begin at 9:00 (local time) with Victoria Altomare/Sophie Bukovec of CAN-B against Jamie Farley/Laurie Bachler of ISV in the women’s event, while Grant O’Gorman/Samuel Pedlow.  More  Español

Las delegaciones recibieron un diploma de manos del Alcalde de la Ciudad de Guatemala, Álvaro Arzú quien estuvo acompañado de Marta Centeno, Presidente de AFECAVOL y Vicepresidente de NORCECA y de la FIVB, así como los miembros del Comité de Control. Local heroes back in action at Campo Marte

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 12 – Local heroes Andy Leonardo and Erik Garrido in the men’s division and María Jose Orellana and Anna Lourdes Ramirez in the women’s side are featured among the top attractions when the Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament kicks off at Campo Marte facilities on April 19. Last year, Leonardo and Garrido won the bronze medal at their home soil with a 2-0 victory over Dominican Republic’s German Recio and William Sanchez. They also claimed a bronze in 2011 in Manzanillo, Mexico. Meanwhile, Ramirez combined efforts with Susana Alvarado to take the silver medal.  More  Español

Men’s beach event in Guatemala promises to be exciting

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 9, 2013 – Men’s defending champion Roberto Rodriguez of Puerto Rico will play with partner Erik Haddock as he tries to remain as king of the beach at the Guatemala Tournament, the third stop of the year in the 2013 NORCECA Circuit from April 19 to 21 at Campo Marte. Rodriguez/Haddock finished in a disappointing sixth place in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, after capturing the gold medal in Cayman Islands for second year in a row.
