Brazilians win gold, Canadians settle for the silver medal
NANJING, China, August 26, 2014 - Ana Patricia Silva and Eduarda Lisboa overcame a four-point deficit in the third and deciding set here Tuesday evening to capture the women’s Beach Volleyball gold medal at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics Games over the McNamara twins of Canada. After losing the first set 21-17 to Megan and Nicole McNamara, Ana Patricia and Eduarda stormed back to win the second set 21-13 over the Canadians.    More  Español

NANJING, China, August 26, 2014 - It will be North America versus South America for the women’s Beach Volleyball gold medal at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games after pairs from Canada and Brazil won semi-final matches here Tuesday afternoon at the venue located within the Nanjing Sports Park Complex. NANJING, China, August 22, 2014 – Nicole and Megan McNamara advanced to the round of the last 16 in the female beach volleyball tournament of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games by finishing with an undefeated 5-0 mark in Pool A. The McNamaras twins won 2-0 (21-15, 21-18) over Italians Lantignotti and Enzo in their match on Friday. NANJING, China, August 22, 2014 – Puerto Ricans Sergio Figueroa and Daniel Rivera completed pool play in the male segment of the beach volleyball tournament of Nanjing Youth Olympic Games with a spotless 5-0 win-loss record in Pool C. With their crushing 2-0 (21-2, 21-5) victory over Carlos Rosa and Ajai Sweeney of U.S. Virgin Islands, the Puerto Rican duo advanced directly to the round of 16 on Sunday. NANJING, China, August 20, 2014 - The “beach rats.” That’s how Puerto Rico coach Angel Peña affectionately refers to his scrappy team. Puerto Rico is not the tallest team, so they try to outhustle opponents. “It’s like we are looking for cheese on the court, and we are going to take it,” Peña said. Peña has two mottos that he constantly preaches his players: “never let the ball hit the ground” and “keep the ball alive.” His players dive for every ball, and refuse to give up on points. “Taller player will always be taller,” Peña said.
