Mexico, USA Federations top 2013 beach volleyball rankings

MARACAS BAY, TRINIDAD, December 1, 2013: The Mexico Volleyball Federation and USA Volleyball Federation secured the USD 5,000 winners cheques after their men and women teams ended as the top ranked teams at the end of the 11th and final stage of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit. The Mexican men’s teams, led by multiple winners Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen, were fourth placed finishers at Maracas Bay, but had already accumulated an insurmountable amount  points in the rankings of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit after they won a record six gold medals.  More

Broder, Valjas take second title to end season

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, December 1, 2013 - Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas (CAN-A) closed out the season just as they started the season in Cayman Islands by capturing the gold medal in the 11th and final leg of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit battling past Heather Hughes and Lane Carico (USA-A). Broder and Valjas emerged champions after a 22-20, 21-15 triumph in the final match of the three-day tournament. Speaking after the win an elated Valjas said it was very pleasing to end off the year on a winning note as they endured a tough season after taking the first tournament in Cayman Islands. Canada’s Redmann, Hatch reign supreme at Maracas Bay

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, December 1, 2013 - Christian Redmann and Maverick Hatch (CAN-B) closed out the 11th and final leg of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in style by claiming the title over William Montgomery and James Drost (USA-B) in straight sets. In a very entertaining final on a wet and cold night, Redmann and Hatch heated up the atmosphere a bit with some scintillating play for a 21-16, 21-16 victory. Commenting on the win, their first for the season and also the first for any Canadian men’s team Hatch, the standout player of the match said it was a very intense match.   More  Español

Lombardo, Virgen on course for seventh win

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, November 30, 2013 - Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen of Mexico kept on course to extend their record number of gold medals in one season when they reached the semifinals of the 11th and final leg of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit. Winners of a record breaking six titles so far this season, Ontiveros and Virgen, who have also sealed the 2013 men’s tour title, booked a spot in the semifinal after beating William Sanchez and Luis Castillo (DOM) 21-10, 21-18 in the first quarterfinal. More  Español

Three champion pairs reach women semifinals

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, November 30, 2013 - The teams of Heather Hughes and Lane Carico (USA-A), Marta Revuelta and Bibiana Candelas (MEX) and Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas (CAN-A), all winners on the tour so far this season have advanced to the semifinals of the 11th and final leg of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit began on Saturday. They were joined by (CAN-B) duo Heather Bansley and Caleigh Whitaker, the latter of whom won the tenth leg women’s gold medal in Costa Rica a week ago playing with Kacie MacTavish against Hughes and Carico to deny the latter a fourth win in 2013. In the quarterfinals. More  Español

Six women teams unbeaten at end of day one 

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, November 29, 2013 - Six women teams remained unbeaten with 2-0 marks to secure their quarterfinal places at the end of the first day of round-robin pool play in four groups when the 11th and final leg of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit began o Friday. In Pool A, Heather Hughes and Lane Carico (USA-A) outplayed Apphia Glasgow and Kinisha Marshall (TTO-) 21-9, 21-2 and Brenda Allen and Shanicia Dyer (SKN) 21-4, 21-12 while Dania Hamilton and Samantha Mann (LCA) also won over Allen and Dyer 21-14, 21-11, and Glasgow and Marshall 11-21, 21-3, 15-12.  More  Español

Lombardo, Virgen lead top four men into quarterfinals

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, NOVEMBER 29, 2013 - Record breakers Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen of Mexico led the top four ranked teams into the quarterfinals with 2-0 records at the end of the opening day of the 11thand final leg of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit. Playing in a pool of three teams in the 19-team tournament, Ontiveros and Virgen who eclipsed the previous record of five tournament wins on the trot with their victory in the tenth leg in Costa Rica last weekend had wins over Richard Campbell and Duncan Hamann (CAY) 21-4, 21-15. Last event of Beach Season in Trinidad & Tobago

MARACAS BAY, Trinidad, November 28, 2013 – The eleventh and final tournament of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit serves off on Friday at Maracas Bay, Trinidad. Mexicans Lombardo Ontiveros, who set a new record in Costa Rica by winning their sixth men’s gold medal of the season, will be trying to add another title during the weekend. The duo Ontiveros/Virgen won this year in Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Cuba, Mazatlán (México), Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. In the women’s division, USA Lane Carico will be seeking her fourth gold medal of the year and the third playing with partner Heather Hughes. More  Español
