Team USA Sweeps Cuba to Win NORCECA Gold 

TULSA, United States (July 19, 2014) – The U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team defeated Cuba, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 on Saturday to win the NORCECA Boys’ Under-19 Continental Championship in front of a boisterous crowd at the Cox Business Center. Team USA finished the tournament with a record of 4-0 and went 12-0 in sets. Cuba finished 4-1. Both teams were already qualified for the 2015 FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship. U.S. outside hitter.  More  Español

Mexico Grabs Bronze and Final Slot for Worlds

TULSA, United States (July 19, 2014) – Mexico grabbed the final slot for the 2015 FIVB World Championship with a 22-25, 25-21, 27-25, 16-25, 15-6 win over Puerto Rico on Saturday at the Cox Business Center. Mexico finishes the tournament 4-2 and qualifies for the 2015 U17 World Championships as one of the top three finishers. Team USA Qualifies for Worlds and Gold Medal Match

TULSA, United States (July 18, 2014) – The U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team qualified for the 2015 FIVB World Championship and for the gold medal match at the NORCECA U19 Boys’ Continental Championship with a 25-22, 25-14, 25-21 win over Mexico on Friday at the Cox Business Center Arena. Team USA (3-0) will play Cuba (4-0) for the gold medal at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday. Mexico (3-2) will play Puerto Rico (2-2) for the bronze medal and the final qualifying slot for the 2015 FIVB World Championship. Only the top three teams qualify.  More  Español

Cuba Win Puts it in NORCECA Final and FIVB Worlds

TULSA, United States (July 18, 2014) – Cuba qualified for the gold medal match and qualified for the 2015 FIVB World Championship with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 win over Puerto Rico on Friday at the Cox Business Center Arena. Cuba (4-0) will play in Saturday’s gold medal match at 6 p.m. CT. Nicaragua Finishes Fifth with Victory over Guatemala

TULSA, United States (July 18, 2014) – Nicaragua finished the NORCECA Boys’ Under-19 Continental Championship in fifth place with a 25-21, 25-18, 28-26 win over Guatemala on Friday at the Cox Business Center. Nicaragua finishes the tournament 1-3 while Guatemala is 1-4. Nicaragua Team Captain Alejandro Gabriel called the victory important for his team. Puerto Rico’s Tough Serves Sends it to Semifinals

TULSA, United States, July 17, 2014 – Puerto Rico blasted its way into the semifinals of the NORCECA Boys’ Under-19 Continental Championship with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-11 victory over Guatemala in the quarterfinals on Thursday at the Cox Business Center. Puerto Rico (2-1) will play Cuba (3-0) in Friday’s 4 p.m. CT semifinal while Guatemala (1-3) will play Nicaragua (0-3) in the match for fifth place at 2 p.m. CT. Mexico reaches semifinals of NORCECA U19

TULSA, United States, July 17, 2014 – Mexico qualified for the semifinals of the NORCECA Boys’ Under-19 Continental Championship on Thursday with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-22 win over Nicaragua. Mexico will play in Friday’s semifinal, against either the United States or Cuba. Nicaragua will play in Friday’s match for fifth place. After losing a difficult five-set match to Cuba in pool play on Wednesday, Mexico Team Captain Ridl Garay said it was difficult for his team to get motivated.More  Español

Team USA Tops Puerto Rico to Reach Semifinals 

TULSA, United States, July 16, 2014 – The United States advanced to Saturday’s semifinals of the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship after defeating Puerto Rico, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 on Wednesday at the Cox Business Center. Team USA finishes pool play at 2-0. Puerto Rico (1-1) will play Guatemala in Thursday’s quarterfinals. The top three finishing teams at the tournament qualify for the 2015 FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship. On Wednesday, The United States’ serving and blocking kept Puerto Rico from mounting a threat. More  Español

Cuba Qualifies for Semifinals 

TULSA, United States, July 16, 2014 – Cuba got an emotional victory over Mexico, 25-17, 19-25, 10-25, 25-17, 18-16 on Wednesday to qualify for the semifinals of the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center. With the victory, Cuba improved to 3-0 and will advance straight to Friday’s semifinals. Mexico (2-1) will play in Thursday’s quarterfinals against Nicaragua (0-2). After winning the first set, 25-17, Cuba’s mistakes started to catch up with it and it fell in the next two sets before winning the fourth. In the match, Mexico scored 41 points on Cuba errors while committing 21. Cuba led in kills (52-40) and blocks (16-9) while Mexico led in aces (10-8).More  Español

Guatemala Reaches Quarterfinals with Win over Barbados

TULSA, United States, July 16, 2014 – Guatemala won a hard-fought battle against Barbados, 25-21, 18-25, 24-26, 26-24, 15-13 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Guatemala (1-2) will play the loser of the Pool A match between the United States and Puerto Rico in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Barbados finishes the tournament at 0-3. Guatemala middle blocker Ricardo Mendoza was injured at the beginning of the second set and Guatemala said they fought to win for him. More  Español

TULSA, USA (July 15, 2014) – Mexico improved to 2-0 on Tuesday with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-12 victory over Guatemala in a Pool B match at the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Mexico’s win sets up a showdown with undefeated Cuba (2-0) in the Pool B finale on Wednesday a 4 p.m. CT. Puerto Rico Holds off Nicaragua

TULSA, USA (July 15, 2014) – Puerto Rico overcame a second-set challenge from Nicaragua to defeat the Central American side, 25-14, 30-28, 25-18 on Wednesday in a Pool A match at the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Puerto Rico (1-0) will face the United States (1-0) in the final pool play match for both teams. Nicaragua finishes pool play at 0-2. Nicaragua was trailing 17-12 in the second set, but outscored Puerto Rico 11-6 to tie the score at 23-23. Cuba Wins Battle with Barbados

TULSA, USA (July 15, 2014) – Barbados showed it can play with the top teams of the tournament, but Cuba came away with the 25-13, 25-21, 25-17 Pool B victory on Tuesday at the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Cuba (2-0) will conclude pool play on Wednesday against Mexico (1-0) at 4 p.m. CT. Barbados (0-2) will look for its first victory against Guatemala (0-1) at 2 p.m. Barbados’ passing was improved on Tuesday and the team looked more comfortable running its plays. “We worked on our passing,” Barbados Team Captain Andriy Stapleton said. “We came into the game and used what we learned in training. More  Español

TULSA, USA, July 14, 2014 – After a slow start, the United States pulled together to defeat Nicaragua, 25-13, 25-11, 25-13 on Monday in a Pool A match on the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Team USA (1-0) will have Tuesday off while Nicaragua (0-1) will play Puerto Rico at 4 p.m. CT. The U.S. Boys’ will play Puerto Rico on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Tough serving proved to be key to the U.S. victory as it led in aces, 18-1.  More  Español

Cuba Dominates Against Guatemala

TULSA, USA, July 14, 2014 – Cuba took down Guatemala, 25-14, 25-12, 25-13 in their Pool B match on Monday at the NORCECA Boys’ Under-19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Cuba (1-0) will play Barbados (0-1) at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday.  Guatemala (0-1) will face Mexico (1-0) at 4 p.m. Cuba dominated the match statistics, leading in kills (28-19), blocks (11-4) and aces (10-1). Cuba took advantage of 26 Guatemala errors while committing 15. Cuba’s Miguel Gutierrez led all scorers with 21 points on a match-high 14 kills. More  Español

Mexico Serves up Defeat of Barbados 

TULSA, USA, July 14, 2014 – Mexico defeated Barbados, 25-17, 25-16, 25-14 on Monday to open the 2014 NORECA Boys’ Under-19 Continental Championship at the Cox Business Center Arena. Mexico (1-0) will play Guatemala at 4 p.m. CT in Pool B on Tuesday while Barbados will face Mexico. Mexico’s strong serving kept Barbados off balance as the winners led in aces 11-4. Mexico also led in kills (33-27), blocks (6-3) and aces (11-14) and scored 25 points on Barbados’ errors while committing 13.  Mexico’s Bruno Cruz led all scorers on Monday with 13 points on eight kills. More  Español
