Canada wins border battle over USA

DETROIT, USA, May 23, 2015 – Canada won a tough border battle over the United States 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 17-15) in the final match of the NORCECA Men’s Champions Cup on Saturday at Joe Louis Arena. Canada won the round-robin tournament at 3-0 while the United States finished second at 2-1. Both teams qualified for the 2015 FIVB World Cup in Japan, which is the first chance to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games. Cuba placed third with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-15).  More  Español

Cuba takes Third at Champions Cup

DETROIT, USA (May 23, 2015) – Cuba secured third place at the NORCECA Champions Cup on Saturday with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-15 victory over Mexico at Joe Louis Arena. Cuba finishes the tournament with a 1-2 record. Mexico finishes 0-3. Neither team qualified for the FIVB World Cup, but both brought young teams to the tournament. Cuba led the match in kills (41-33), blocks (10-5) and aces (6-1). Cuban opposite Rolando Cepeda, who entered the match as the tournament’s leading scorer, led Cuba with 14 points on 13 kills and one ace. Outside hitter Osmany Uriarte added 13 points on 12 kills. USA comes back to beat Cuba, qualify to World Cup

DETROIT, USA, May 22, 2015 – The United States qualified for the FIVB World Cup on Friday with a 20-25, 25-17, 25-10, 25-11 win over Cuba at Joe Louis Arena on Friday. The top two Champions Cup finishers qualify for the 2015 FIVB World Cup, which is the first qualifier for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Canada also qualified for the World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Mexico on Friday.  More  Español

Canada wins ticket to World Cup

DETROIT, USA, May 22, 2015 – Canada assured itself a spot in the FIVB World Cup with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-13 win over Mexico at the NORCECA Champions Cup at Joe Louis Arena on Friday. The FIVB World Cup is the first qualification tournament for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Canada (2-0) will have nothing to lose when it plays the United States in Saturday’s finale of the round-robin tournament at 6 p.m. ET. Mexico (0-2). More  Español

USA serves tough against Mexico

DETROIT, USA, May 21, 2015 – The United States used powerful serving to defeat a young Mexican team, 25-15, 25-12, 25-17 on Thursday at the NORCECA Champions Cup at Joe Louis Arena. The United States (1-0) will play Cuba (0-1) on Friday in the round robin tournament while Mexico (0-1) will face Canada (1-0).  The top two Champions Cup finishers qualify for the 2015 FIVB World Cup, which is the first qualifier for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The United States led in aces 15-3, with middle blocker Max Holt finishing with seven and opposite Murphy Troy adding four.  More  Español

Canada beats Cuba for the third time this week

DETROIT, USA, May 21, 2015 - Canada once again claimed victory over Cuba, this time at the NORCECA Men’s Champions Cup in Detroit, Michigan. Canada won 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-17), after two similar wins this past weekend in the opening matches of FIVB World League. The competition in Detroit includes United States, ranked No. 1 in NORCECA, Cuba (No. 2), Canada (No. 3) and Mexico (No. 4) in competition today (May 21), Friday (May 22) and Saturday (May 23) at Joe Louis Arena.    More  Español

Top NORCECA teams start engines for Champions Cup

DETROIT, USA, May 20, 2015 – The four top-ranked NORCECA men’s volleyball teams hope to start their road to Rio de Janeiro this week at the Champions Cup in the Motor City. The United States, ranked No. 1 in NORCECA, Cuba (No. 2), Canada (No. 3) and Mexico (No. 4) begin round-robin play Thursday (May 21) and continue Friday (May 22) and Saturday (May 23) at Joe Louis Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL.
