HAVANA, Cuba, October 3, 2014 – Following the inspection visit to the competition and training facilities, the members of the Control Committee of the II Men’s U23 Pan American Cup approved them to successfully host the event from October 5 to 12 at the Sport City Coliseum of the Cuban capital.

In the competition venue, totally prepared to receive the five visiting teams from Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, EL Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago, the national local team played an intrasquad match with the participation of referees and the different technical staffs and court assistants.

The members of the Control Committee went over all the facilities led by Cuban Ariel Sainz, its president, the Dominican Arateide Caceres, administrative assistant, as well as Mexican Cesar Ozuna, director of the competition, Colombian Luis Darío Rocha, referee delegate, and Puerto Rican Neila Alicea of VIS.

Also the rest of the members from the local organizing committee, including the former triple Olympic and double world champion Mireya Luis, member of NORCECA Board of Administration.

For Ozuna it brought special memories to once again walk around the coliseum, with capacity for 15,000 spectators, since he played there with the Mexican National Team in the NORCECA Championship in 1971.

Meanwhile for the South American Rocha he expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity of working in Cuba for the first time, where he had the chance to greet several Cuban technicians who have worked for Colombian volleyball. “It is really very emotional, the stage is beautiful and we expect to have a good tournament,” he said.

The members of the committee also visited the National Volleyball School, to be used for training near the Sport City, located at five-minute distance of the hotels Tulipan for the teams and Bella Habana for the international referees and the control committee.

The II Men’s U23 Pan American Cup will grant two NORCECA spots to the FIVB U23 Men’s World Championship. It will be played under a round-robin format from October 5-9. The medals matches and the fifth place contest will take place on October 10.
