All set in Havana for Men’s U23 Pan Am Cup
HAVANA, Cuba, October 3, 2014 – Following the inspection visit
to the competition and training facilities, the members of the
Control Committee of the II Men’s U23 Pan American Cup approved
them to successfully host the event from October 5 to 12 at the
Sport City Coliseum of the Cuban capital.
In the competition venue, totally prepared to receive the five
visiting teams from Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, EL
Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago, the national local team played
an intrasquad match with the participation of referees and the
different technical staffs and court assistants.
The members of the Control Committee went over all the
facilities led by Cuban Ariel Sainz, its president, the
Dominican Arateide Caceres, administrative assistant, as well as
Mexican Cesar Ozuna, director of the competition, Colombian Luis
Darío Rocha, referee delegate, and Puerto Rican Neila Alicea of

champion Mireya Luis, member of NORCECA Board of Administration.
For Ozuna it brought special memories to once again walk around
the coliseum, with capacity for 15,000 spectators, since he
played there with the Mexican National Team in the NORCECA
Championship in 1971.
Meanwhile for the South American Rocha he expressed his
enthusiasm for the opportunity of working in Cuba for the first
time, where he had the chance to greet several Cuban technicians
who have worked for Colombian volleyball. “It is really very
emotional, the stage is beautiful and we expect to have a good
tournament,” he said.

Volleyball School, to be used for training near the Sport City,
located at five-minute distance of the hotels Tulipan for the

The II Men’s U23 Pan American Cup will grant two NORCECA spots
to the FIVB U23 Men’s World Championship. It will be played
under a round-robin format from October 5-9. The medals matches
and the fifth place contest will take place on October 10.
