Alvarado/Quiñonez of Guatemala U21 Central American Beach Volleyball Champions

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 3 2021. - Paola Alvarado and Laura Quiñonez of Guatemala crowned Champions at the XIII Central American U21 Beach Volleyball Championship dominating

Kianny Araya and Ana Fallas of Costa Rica by 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) on Sunday at Guatemala City.


For Paola Alavarado this is her second gold medal of the category, the first was in 2018 with former partner Maria Fernanda Juárez; in the past edition Alvarado and Quiñonez won the silver medal.


In route to gold, Alvarado/Quiñonez came from behind in semifinals 2-1 (20-22, 21-16, 15-10) over Ángel Williams/Ximena Núñez of Costa Rica 2.


Kianny Araya and Ana Fallas defeated Mirella González/Dana Funes (ESA 1) in semifinals by a score of 2-0 (21-9, 21-18).


Alvarado and Quiñonez had lost against Araya/Fallas in pool-play, and started the gold medal match with some difficulties closing the first set missing 4 points (15-20) under a constant pressure from Araya and Fallas before sealing 21-19. The second set was the hardest, the Guatemalan duo jumped to a 13-11 advantage but Costa Rica recovered easily to an even 19.


Paola Alvarado spoke about the difference between this performance and the one in pool-play against Araya/Fallas “we were more focused, with much more communication; I believe our strategy as a team was better more clear”.


“We’ve been making a lot of effort for a long time and winning the gold medal hear at home is an incredible feeling, I am proud of giving a gold medal to Guatemala” said Laura Quiñónez.


In the bronze medal match, Ángel Williams/Ximena Núñez (CRC 1) won 2-0 (21-15, 21-14) against Mirella González/Dana Funes (ESA 1).
