Americans Flint/Larsen enjoy good opening day

 

   

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, April 29, 2016 – Americans Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen started off on the right foot at the Punta Cana Beach Volleyball Tournament winning their two matches of Day One on Friday.

 

Flint and Larsen of United States-A, winners of the previous tournament in Cayman Islands, began their day outdueling compatriots Geena Urango and Angela Bensend of United States-B 2-1 (22-24, 21-18, 15-10) in actions of Pool C, and then captured a 21-15, 21-15 win against Stephanie Burnside and Diana Valdez of Mexico-B.

 

In Pool B, the Canadians Julie Gordon and Brandie Wilkerson also got a pair of victories in opening day, winning 21-17, 21-12 over countrywomen Megan Nagy and Marie Christine Lapointe and 21-7, 21-8 against Jenny Paulino and Hohanny Lake of Dominican Republic-B.

 

In Pool D, Nicaraguans Claudia Machado and Socorro Lopez also finished with two wins on Friday. They overcame Ayana Dyette and Malika Davidson of Trinidad & Tobago in three sets 2-1 (21-16, 21-23, 15-11) and then won 21-14, 21-16 against Raquel Ferrand and Camila Monero of Dominican Republic-A.

 

In the Pool A of only three teams, the top-seeded Cubans Lianma Flores and Leila Martinez won their match 21-11, 21-10 against Lai Wright and Danielle Perry of Jamaica.
