Antigua remains undefeated with win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines

St. JOHNS, Antigua, September, 10, 2016 – Antigua/ Barbuda female senior team bagged another victory to make to two in a row as round robin games of the ECVA World Cup Qualifying tournament Group B women came to a close

The victory was against St. Vincent and the Grenadines in straight sets – 25 -19, 25-11 and 25 -21. The makeup of those points for Antigua/Barbuda showed 30 from Spikes, 8 from Blocks and 4 from the service line. St. Vincent on the other had had 11 Kills, 2 Blocks and 7 service points.

With only three teams in the competition it meant that Antigua/Barbuda goes into the finals undefeated while St. Vincent goes home.

Assistant Coach Henry Matthew was oozing with confidence at the end of the game. ”We are well on course to achieving our main objective and that is to come out on top and move on to the next round. The girls had a comfortable all round game with improvement in the service area when compared to the first game. In the third game we tried to use some of our younger players who are just coming into the team but we were in control throughout “, he stated

The statistics on the individual scoresheet support Matthew’s claim of a good all-round game. The offense was spread so that Nyota Peters scored 11 Naheemah Wilson and Sharon Payne each had 9 while Kwansia Carr chipped in with 7.

Cluevvan Cumberbach was still down in the mouth. “ Of course I am a little bit disappointed  and a little down right down as we did not even come away with a win. Our girls played hard so they will be sad not to have one on further. We definitely have to double our efforts in preparation for these tournaments”, he said.

None of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines players had a score worthy of note

The finals of the female ECVA World Cup Qualifier will be between Grenada and Antigua /Barbuda to be held on Sunday 11th
