Argentina improves to 3-0 at U20 Pan Am Cup

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 21, 2015 – Argentina cruised to a straight-set (25-12, 25-13, 25-19) victory over Costa Rica while progressing to a 3-0 win-loss record at the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup on Tuesday.

Argentina outscored Costa Rica 8-2 in the aces department and also held a slight advantage in the blocking category 5-3.

Anahi Tosi, Candela Nota and Maria Corbalan each scored 10 points to lead Argentina while Fiamma Biain and Candelaria Herrera contributed 7 apiece. Tania Carazo was the best Costa Rican with 11 points, in the loss.

“We didn’t play very well today as we couldn’t keep the level of concentration and slowed down in our energy to play every ball at a 100 percent,” Argentina’s captain Azul Benitez said.

“We changed our attitude in the third set and improved the focus,” Costa Rican Tatiana Sayles said. “It was a good experience for us.”

“We didn’t have the focus,” Argentina’s coach Mauro Silvestre said. “The one thing I ask my players is to give 100 per cent in every action and that’s something we need to correct. The only way to show respect for the opponent is to play 100 per cent no matter who’s at the other side.”

“It is very tough to play against a team with such control of the ball,” Costa Rican coach Andres Lopez said. “I admire the way they play even though today we found a way to take advantage of their lack of concentration in the third set.”
