Bermuda earns ticket to finals after defeating Anguilla

Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten Saturday 6th August 2016:After a late night of volleyball, Anguilla and Bermuda served off this morning in the first game of the day. Bermuda proved the more resilient of the two teams and won the game by three (3) sets to one with scores of  23- 25; 25-18; 25- 20; 25-16.  Bermuda played a more compact game with sound defense and good serving.

Captain Settle-Smith and Khianda Pearman- Watson led the way for Bermuda with thirteen and fourteen points respectively.

Anguilla was on fire in the first set but imploded as the game progressed.  Ludiane Leveret and Connie Smith worked hard on rallying the troupes, but unforced errors unhinged the team. Ludiane continued to lead the way with sixteen (16) points and she was ably assisted by Rikiesha Leveret and Janai Gumbs who contributed ten (10) and twelve (12) points respectively.

The Captain and Coach of the winning team were happy with the result. According to Captain Settle-Smith “the team will continue playing hard with one foot on the gas for the remaining game”.  She was of the view that the team played as a unit and gelled well.

Coach Elisabeth Rae was impressed with the level of aggression shown by her charges and stated that their continued growth as a unit is exemplified when persons continually provide either the offense or defense needed at any point in the game.

Anguilla’s Captain, Ludiane Leveret indicated her team played with a timid mind set and did not execute the game plan.  She further stated “In many instances Anguilla lost focus, and we played too constricted”. Assistant Coach Samuel Guerrera shared a similar view and stated the team has performed better.
