Brayelin & Bethania lead triumph over Mexico
NAGOYA, Japan, October 10, 2018 - Brayelin Martinez and Bethania
De La Cruz scored 12 points each as the Dominican Republic beat
Mexico 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-15) in the second round of the FIVB
Women's World Championship on Wednesday afternoon.
Lisvel Mejia added 10 points in the victory for the Dominicans.
Andrea Rangel led Mexico with 14 points in the loss.
The Dominican Republic came in with a record of 3-4, while
Mexico was 1-6. The winners dominated in all phases of the game
on the way to the win.
The Dominicans took control of the match early and never
relinquished it. Mexico was unable to contend with the attack
and block of their opponents. After playing very well against
Brazil in a four-set loss on Monday, Mexico did not display the
same energy on this day.
Also in Nagoya, Maren Fromm and Louisa Lippmann combined for a
potent 1-2 punch, each scoring 25 points, as Germany downed
Puerto Rico in 3-1 (25-23, 27-25, 29-27, 25-22). Jennifer
Geerties added 12 points in the win for Germany.
Stephanie Enright and Daly Santana each had 21 points as the
highest scorers for Puerto Rico in the loss. Karina Ocasio had
19.
Both teams did a good job of passing the ball and finding their
wing spikers during the contest. The match was a seesaw affair
that both teams looked like they might win at different points.
Germany entered the match with a 4-3 record, while Puerto Rico
was 2-5. |
