Brayelin Martinez named MVP of Pan Am Cup

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 10, 2016 – Brayelin Martinez, who amassed 30 points in the victory of the Dominican Republic over Puerto Rico at the gold medal match of the XV Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup, was named the Most Valuable Player of the annual intercontinental competition.

 

Martinez, who was also awarded as one of the outside hitters in the All-Star Team, was one of three Dominicans recognized during the closing ceremony on Sunday.

 

Teammate Annerys Vargas was one of the middle blockers included in the ideal team and Brenda Castillo took home three trophies as best libero, best receiver and best digger.

 

Karina Ocasio of vice champions Puerto Rico was named as the best opposite and Peruvian Alexandra Muñoz was the best setter.

 

USA’s Micha Hancock, who set new Pan American Cup records with 50 total aces and 12 for a single match was the best server while teammates Madison Kingdon and Rhamat Alhassan were elected as outside hitter and middle blocker, respectively.

 

Kenny Moreno, who set a new record of most total points in a Pan American Cup with 174, received the award as best scorer.
