Chile becomes first finalist of U19 Boys Pan Am Cup

 

MONTERREY, Mexico, March 24, 2017 - Chile became the first finalist of U19 Boys’ Pan American Cup after beating Puerto Rico in straight sets. Scores were 25-17, 25-21 and 25-21 in one hour and 15 minutes of game.

 

Esteban Mülchi was the best scorer for Chile with 14 units, followed by Julian Zenteno  who scored 10. For Puerto Rico, Gabriel Garcia topped with 20 points and Pedro Molina closed with 13. Puerto Rico surrendered 28 points by error, while Chile only 15.

 

Captain of Chile, Joaquin Leon: “We are very glad to classify to the finals and with a 3-0 victory. We thought it was going to be more difficult a 3-2 or 3-1 score but we knwo how to take the best from our attackers and win with no problems.”

 

Captain of Puerto Rico, Gabriel Garcia: “Chile is a very strong and tall team. We had our ups and downs but we have to keep our head high and keep working.”

 

Coach of Chile, Ivan Villarreal: “We classify to the finals with the goal of playing a good match. Puerto Rico was tough with tall players. Good servers. To win we should have a very solid and high performance.”

 

Coach of Puerto Rico, Juan Albarrán: “We made many mistakes. They served very well in the first set. In the next two we were our own opponents. We made 24 mistakes in the first two. Too many against a team like Chile.”
