Colombia defeats Peru in straight sets
and
advances to the Semifinals
COLIMA, Mexico, August 8, 2025 – Colombia defeated Peru in straight
sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) on Friday in the Quarterfinals to
reach the Semifinals of the XXII Senior Women's Pan American
Volleyball Cup in Colima, Mexico.
Colombia is set to face Puerto Rico in the Semifinals, and Peru will
play Venezuela for positions 5/6.
Colombia dominated the entire match, pressuring Peru both
offensively and defensively. The Colombians led in attacks 52-40, in
blocks 8-7, and in aces 2-0. Colombia committed 13 unforced errors
and Peru 14.
Colombian corner Ana Karina Olaya led the match with 17 points,
followed by Laura Grajales and Valerin Carabali with 15 each, while
Dayana Segovia added 10.
For Peru, Coraima Gómez led the offensive team with 10 points,
followed by Sandra Ostos with 9.
Guilherme Schmitz, Colombia coach: "It was a very tough match, as
Peru's coach knew the Colombian team very well, having worked with
the girls for many years, but I've always said that in the
qualifiers, you don't have to play well or poorly, you just have to
win. I'm very happy to reach the semifinals in such a short time
with the Colombian team."
Antonio Rizola, Peru coach: “My team played more than I expected
because Colombia is a structured team, a team that is fifteen days
away from a World Championship and it is a team that I know very
well because ninety percent of those girls worked with me, we are a
team that is in the process of formation and we never give up on the
game and mistakes are sure to appear and Colombia knew how to solve
Peru, I leave here not with my head down but with my head held
high.” |
