Dominican Minister of Sports welcomes NORCECA Champions

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 12, 2016 – The new minister of sports of the Dominican Republic Mr. Danilo Diaz offered a lunch to the players and technical staff of the Girls’ U18 Volleyball National Team recently crowned at the NORCECA Continental Championship held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

 

Diaz, who was appointed on August 16, greeted the athletes in the company of Mr. Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee.

 

The activity took place at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation located at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Park at walking distance from the volleyball complex where the Dominican teams regularly carry out their training.

 

“We are very proud of all of you after your deserved victory that speaks loud about the character and determination,” Diaz said. “I want to take the opportunity to congratulate the efforts and the continuity of the female volleyball program which I consider a role model.”

 

Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of the Dominican Republic Women’s Program of National Teams also attended the ceremony and lunch.

 

The Dominican Republic won the NORCECA Girls’ U18 Volleyball Continental Championship for second edition in a row defeating the United States in a dramatic duel after falling in the first two sets and trailing in the latter part of the tie-breaker.

 

The players presented Mr. Diaz with a volleyball autographed by all them as well as the coaches.
